The automotive manufacturing industry is required to continuously improve productivity and efficiency without compromising product quality, one of which can be achieved through the optimization of production tools such as jigs and fixtures in the assembly process. In the assembly process of door armrest components for Toyota Boshoku as the customer in the Toyota Fortuner vehicle, there are two product variations, namely Front Right–Rear Right (FR-RR), which have different geometries and therefore require different positioning systems. Problems observed in the field indicate that the use of separate jigs for each product variation leads to an increased number of tools, larger storage space requirements, and longer jig replacement time, resulting in low tooling flexibility. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop a universal jig assembly for door armrest (FR-RR), evaluate the strength and durability of the design using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method, and analyze the effect of jig implementation on assembly process efficiency. The developed jig is designed by considering aspects of portability, ease of operation, safety, and operator ergonomics. The results of this study are expected to improve production efficiency, reduce the number of required tools, and provide a more flexible and optimal tooling solution in accordance with industrial needs, particularly in meeting the quality standards of Toyota Boshoku as the customer.
